What I am reading at the moment...

At the moment I am reading 'Inkheart' by Cornelia Funke. I've only read the first few chapters and it's addictive!!

It's about a girl named Meggie, who is twelve. She lives with her Dad who she calls Mo.

She is used to them moving a lot, her Dad fixes old books which are usually long gone without repair.

One night, it's pouring rain and Meggie can't sleep. She takes a look outside and sees a man standing outside. She goes and wakes Mo, who tells her to go back to sleep saying the visitor is for him. But of course Meggie doesn't go back to sleep. I mean, which child could resist finding out who this strange character is?

It turns out his name is Dustfinger, and he seems to be a friend of Mo's from a while back. Mo takes him into a room and Meggie tries to hear what they're saying, but only catches the name 'Capricorn' and something about a book.

The next morning, her Dad wakes her up early and said they have to leave. He is already beginning to pack her suitcase.

As they are about to leave with a packed car, at the gate is Dustfinger. Apparently they were supposed to meet up, but Mo was about to dash away.

Dustfinger ends up travelling with them. Meggie demands to know where they are going, and who Capricorn is (I won't tell you, you can read the book yourself!)

They travel South to one of Meggie and Mo's many relatives. She lives in a house full of books and is quite rich. Whilst Mo fixes some of her books, both Meggie and Dustfinger snoop around a bit. It turns out, from Meggie's snooping, her relative and Mo are planning to hide the book mentioned earlier somewhere to hide it from Capricorn.

Dustfinger then tells Meggie to go in, since she is 'the face of innocence' to find out what they're doing.
Meggie refuses, but Dustfinger pushes her in.

That's what I'm up to! From what I've read so far, I totally reccomend it!!!

  1. There is a movie of the book out as well. Before I started to read the book, I watched the start of the movie, but it was a bad disk and kept freezing and jumping around. So we returned it.
I'll have to watch it again, once I've finished the book.
